There are a few things that can help the computer to
record audio. I'll go over some that are easier to accomplish. There
are many software tweaks that really help, so check with your software
manufacturer. Here I will cover more general things. By all means,
if you have any suggestions or computer tips of your own, please email me at Richard@guitarsandcomputers.com
Tips
 | Defragment your hard drive - Doing a defrag on your hard
drive is always helpful and can usually mean the difference between a good
smooth recording and one that sounds choppy. |
 | RAM - How much memory do you have in your computer?
The more the better! RAM prices are so inexpensive these days that
there is probably no excuse to not upgrading your RAM to the max.
Computer operations are so much more fluid with the increased RAM and you'll
notice that the delay time when recording is less noticeable (latency). |
 | For windows users, check your task bar. See if there
are any unnecessary programs loading when you start your computer.
These programs show up by your clock. I would recommend disabling
things like real audio start centers, gator, any file sharing programs like
bear share, etc. These programs take up memory and are constantly
looking at the internet. You can usually disable them by going into
msconfig. But this is a touchy thing. I recommend getting a good
windows book or checking with places like zdnet.com on information with your
startup files. |
