Guitar Tips for recording

Here are some things I like to do before I start recording guitar parts.  Some are more obvious than others.  If you have any tips of your own, feel free to drop me an email at Richard@guitarsandcomputers.com

I like recording with new guitar strings.  It takes time to put them on so maybe change them on a weekend when you're not busy.  That way later in the week you can just go at the recording.  Yes, you can leave your old strings on, but at some point the strings don't sound as crisp and vibrant.  I think when you're recording you'll start to notice how good new strings sound when compared to old strings that are starting to lose their plating.  One way a friend recommended to me is to use Elixer strings.  These are supposed to be coated to make them last.  I'll let you know what I find out when I try them myself.
This may sound dumb, but tune the guitar.  I don't know how many times I've recorded and later on found out that my guitar wasn't in tune when I tried to add some tracks.  Duh!  Now I always tune up and I use chromatic tuner.
Here's a little item that is well worth the purchase.  This device helps eliminate hum which always seems to be present when you try to record!
