Up TIPS Mics

If you don't like the sound you get when recording direct, then the only way to go is to record with a mic.  Here's probably the most used mic around.  It is very inexpensive and it does a great job of recording your guitar amp:

 Shure SM57 Instrument/Vocal Mic

If you are recording vocals a better low cost mic would be this one:

 Shure SM58 Mic
Shure SM58 Mic

And if you have just a regular acoustic guitar, not an acoustic/electric where you can plug in, then the recommended mic to use is a condenser mic.  These are expensive (to me) but there is a low cost one by Nady that might be worth looking into (I haven't got one yet, I just plug in direct) :

 Nady CM-88 Condenser Microphone

Recording with a mic can get loud.  If you have angry neighbors or family members then you might want to get something like this:

 Randall Isolation 12 Speaker Cab
Randall Isolation 12 Speaker Cab

I originally built something similar to the Randall but I used a cardboard box with some sound absorbing material.  I will post a picture and my plans soon!  If you want to hear what it sounded like check out my music page and listen to the three songs posted.  I recorded all guitar parts using my Roland Cube 40, an SM57, a Zoom 4040, and my RG470.
